Re: Traditionally, what body type was considered idea in the different cultures?
It depends more on the choice of individual than culture, as there are different people with different preferences and choices in one culture.
Living in Pakistan, I like curvy women, and I would go for thin girl, as well, if she has some thick parts.
Like any thin girl can make her legs/thighs thick by doing work out, why not?

First I want to know what are UK and US sizes… What are differences?
When you say, you’re UK size 4… is that waist size?

It’s how women’s clothes are sized, based on average body naap. There is a slight variance in how sizes run in US & UK

Mezhgan:
Yesterday, my friend and I were talking about what is considered skinny, fat and “normal” in terms of body type these days. The conversation was brought about after going to get alterations done on a (Pakistani) outfit for a wedding as the lady doing the alterations commented a couple of times that she thinks I’m overly thin. I was a bit surprised as I’ve always found my size (I’m a UK size 4) to be within the normal range and I’ve seen loads of people that size. That brought up the question of what is considered “normal” these days.
I know every culture has its own idea of beauty and what it considers aesthetically appealing, so I was wondering, what is considered “normal,” skinny and fat in different cultures and traditionally, what has been the preferred body type? Has that changed with current trends?
I just saw chart… it says… you are skinny… your tailor was right.

^ From my understanding the conversion between UK sizes and American sizes is the following:
UK 4 = US 0
UK 6 = US 2
UK 8 = US 4
UK 10 = US 6
UK 12 = US 8
UK 14 = US 10
UK 16 = US 12
UK 18 = US 14
These refer to waist and hip size.

BTW.. In Punjabi culture… I as Karachitte perceive that they don’t like skinny… Mostly Punjabies like healthy girls…
Re: Traditionally, what body type was considered idea in the different cultures?
She got a lot slimmer after getting engaged.. Same with Kate Middleton.. Both got a lot of criticism about their weight.. Kate is tall tho.. 5’9 I think..
A UK size 10-12 (prob more towards 12) would be considered the ideal in Pakistan for a person of average height (around 5’4)..

I hope ‘healthy’ is not a code word for fat here, lol.
Re: Traditionally, what body type was considered idea in the different cultures?
^This!!! When did “healthy” become a code word for chubby? Being thin doesn’t necessarily mean one is unhealthy.

Hehe. It’s a very Asian thing to use the word ‘healthy’ to describe chubby or fat people. Makes me laugh every time.
To answer Mahool’s question, yes you are right, most Punjabis generally prefer slightly tall, curvaceous, slightly wide boned women with fuller faces with fair to olive complexion. I believe the standards are pretty same in Pakhtoon culture as well. Although I must add that it’s supremely trendy to be slim in Lahore.
