I think some major event will happen in 2012. As Muslim we believe in a number of major events before Qayyamat and they will take more than 2 years.

People, the Mayans did not predict the end of the world, their calender simply ENDS in 2012. The real culprit is Nostradamus, now he predicted that the world as we know it will end abrubtly in 2012 due to the Galactic alignment. I believe the Galactic aligment simply refers to the new galactic age which we will witness in 2012.
