Common hoopoes are widespread in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. They are monogamous, although the pair bond apparently only lasts for a single season.

Pilated woodpeckers are found in deciduous forests in E North America, the Great Lakes, the boreal forests of Canada, and parts of the Pacific coast. They are the largest woodpecker in the United States. Photographed here in the Everglades (Florida).
