In 9th of July, *2008, * Turkey Terrorist Attack On US Consulate 9th July 2008 : In an attack on the United States consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, a total of six people were killed on this day. The attacks were linked to an Islamic fundamentalist group by the name of the Great Eastern Islamic Raiders.

10th July 1958 : An earthquake hit north of Juneau in Alaska causing a tidal wave that completly covered a small island and 3 people were drowned on the island while picking wild strawberries.

10th July 1973 : The Bahamas gains independence from Great Britain after 300 years of British of British Rule, the Bahamas remain a part of the British Commonwealth. The new prime minister will be Lyndon Pindling whose Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) won the elections in September 1972 .

10th July 2006 : Chlorine gas fumes were leaked from a rusty pipe at a chemical factory in Yinchuan City, China. The gas leak affected 164, mostly children and elderly, who were then hospitalized for breathing problems.

10th July 2006 : A passenger plane carrying 45 people crashed shortly after taking off from Multan. The Pakistan International Airlines plane suffered from technical difficulties, it lost contact with the control tower only two minutes after it took off and then erupted into flames.

10th July 2008 : Peacekeepers in the Darfur region of Sudan are hijacked when their convoy is ambushed in Darfur by hundreds of rebel gunmen on horses and with 40 trucks outfitted with mounted machine guns. The peacekeepers were outnumbered and suffered 7 dead and many more injured. The latest attack brings into question how long the Peace Keepers can stay in the region without more men and advanced equipment including helicopter gun ships to better protect those whose role it is to protect others. The President of Sudan Omar Hassan al-Bashir is facing indictments by the International Criminal Court for alleged atrocities and crimes against humanity in the region which left 450,000 dead and 2.5 million displaced.

10th July 2009 : A 27 year old man from Spain was the first person to die of a fatal bull attack during the Pamplona running of the bulls in fourteen years.

10th July, 2011 : A businessman from Chicago reached 10 million frequent flyer miles with United Airlines after twenty-nine years of loyalty to the airline company. As a reward for his feat he will never have to wait in line, always gets upgraded, and will have a plane named after him. Thomas Stuker had been on 5,962 flights before reaching this milestone.

10th July, 2012 : The Episcopal Church has become the largest denomination in the US to bless same-sex relationships. During the church's general convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, nearly eighty-percent of the House of Deputies voted in favor of a thee year trial run of a same sex service to be called the "Witnessing and Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant", it had also been approved by the House of Bishops.

12th July 1993 : Following an earthquake estimated at 7.8 which generated giant waves a tsunami left roughly 200 people dead on the island of Okushiri in Japan.

12th July 1995 : A heat wave that effects Illinois and Wisconsin starts when a heat advisory is issued in Chicago, Illinois, warning of an impending record-breaking heat wave. By the time the heat wave ends one week later, nearly 2,000 people are dead in Illinois and Wisconsin with temperatures being recorded in Chicago up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit.

12th July 1999 : Following a ban by the European Union on all Beef Imports from the US over the widespread use of growth hormones which the EU believes could cause increased cancer, nerve disorders and other health problems. The US has placed trade sanctions worth $116m on EU Goods.
All European Union farmers are banned from giving hormones to cattle because of health fears.
Many believe this could spread to an all trade war between Europe and America as GM crop imports are also restricted due to concerns over possible health issues.

12th July 2007 : Former First Lady, Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson, better known as Lady Bird Johnson passed away at the age of 94 on this day. Best known for her environmentalism, Johnson was also a strong supporter of civil rights and combating poverty.

12th July 2005 : The IndyMac Bank, based in California, failed on this day. The bank became the fifth to fail in the United States in 2008, and became one of the largest financial institutions to fail in United States history.

12th July, 2011 : The funeral for former first lady Betty Ford was held after her death at the age of ninety-three. In attendance were current first lady Michelle Obama, former first ladies Nancy Reagan and Rosalynn Carter, former president George W. Bush, and Secretary of State and former first lady Hilary Clinton. Betty Ford had been known for her outspoken and honest manner on issues such as women's rights, as well as work on drug and alcohol treatment.
