3rd June 1989 : A natural gas pipeline leaks gas close to a railroad track in the Ural Mountains and as two trains pass the build up of gas an explosion occurs creating a massive fireball which engulfs the trains killing over 500 of the passengers.

3rd June 1998 : A high speed train travelling in excess of 125MPH comes off the rails in Eschede, 35 miles (50km) north of Hanover leaving at least 100 people dead and many more injured.

3rd June 1999 : India and Pakistan are once again in conflict over the area of Kashmir with reports of hand-to-hand fighting and ground and air strikes by Indian forces on Pakistan backed guerrillas in areas close to the LOC ( Line Of Control ) in Kashmir province which is seperated into a Pakistan side and an India Side, the LOC was agreed in 1949 following a ceasefire between the two countries.

3rd June, 2009 : New Hampshire became the sixth state in the United States to make gay marriage legal. The governor, John Lynch, signed the legislation allowing same-sex marriage surrounded by supporters.

3rd June, 2011 : Controversial doctor, Jack Kevorkian, died at the age of eighty-three. Kevorkian was known as "Doctor Death" and had spent eight years in prison for aiding in assisted suicides of one hundred and thirty people. He was released from prison in 2007 and a movie about him and his life was made in 2010. Kevorkian advocated assisted suicide for terminally ill patients and his trial and conviction of murder for assisting a suicide sparked much debate on the subject.

3rd June, 2012 : Colombian drug lord Diego Rastrojo was arrested by police in Venezuela. Authorities have stated that he became the leader of the cartel in May and that they would hand him over to Colombian authorities.

4th June 1989 : In May nearly a million Chinese students and others held mass protests calling for greater democracy and an end to corruption at Tiananmen Square in the center of Beijing, but on June 4th Chinese troops with tanks and armored cars stormed Tiananmen Square killing hundreds of protesters when firing into the crowd indiscriminately and arresting thousands of pro democracy protesters some of who are still in jail.

7th June, 2007 : Hundreds of Chinese students staged riots in the Henan province clashing with police. The riots occurred by a number of university students after reports that a female student had been beaten by city inspectors for reportedly setting up a street stall without a license.

7th June, 2009 : The Peruvian army set up curfews and checkpoints in the Amazon region after there were clashes between indigenous protesters and police. The protesters were upset at plans to drill for oil in the jungle region and had taken police officers hostage. At least thirty people had died as a result of the clashes, both officers and protesters.

7th June, 2012 : Denmark's parliament overwhelmingly approved a law allowing same-sex marriage, the law also covered same-sex weddings in the Church of Denmark. The country was the first in the world to recognize same-sex civil partnerships in 1989 but had not made any mention of same-sex marriage
