Re: To buy or not to buy
No, I can't afford it but I'm still gonna buy it. I need more room to roam the earth.

Re: To buy or not to buy
Location, Location, Location....
Realestate in and near the D.C. area outrageous!!! Very high cost of living.
House Hunters and Double Agents (tv shows) often highlight townhomes, houses, condos, apartments in D.C. , areas (Fairfax?, Restin? Newport News? etc.) Virginia with reasonable commute to D.C. as well as Baltimore properties.
I have relative working in D.C. I think they live in Burke, Virginia.
Another relative just bought a simple townhouse in Fairfax...the $$$ involved could have purchased a 3500 square foot luxary home in the midwest...
If I could afford housing in the area I think I would try to purchase a fixer-upper home..especially if you are handy with home improvements....
..or maybe something in the process of forclosure...
I think even if price falls after purchase .... you still have tax benefits in owning... and unless market bottoms out...still a bit of equity..not to mention a roof over your head...:)
..or perhaps a duplex or something with mother-in-law quarters..that can be rented out to help offset expenses.
