Senate pays homage to legendary boxer Muhammad Ali
RAZA KHAN — PUBLISHED A DAY AGO
ISLAMQBAD: The Senate on Monday paid rich tribute to boxing legend Muhammad Ali, who passed away on Friday, and passed a unanimous resolution to condole his sad demise.
“The Senate of Pakistan places on record its profound grief and sorrow on the said demise of three-time world heavy weight boxing champion Muhammad Ali,” read the resolution presented by leader of the house Senator Raja Zafar Ul Haq.
The condolence resolution adopted by the house says that Muhammad Ali was a great human being, a legend and a civil rights activist besides being a great player of boxing.
“He was a role model inside the ring as well as outside and was inspiration to many.”
The Senate also lauded his strong stance over Vietnam war and and termed his non-participation in the ‘unjust’ war as his biggest achievement.
The resolution quotes the boxer’s words “Every human being is born for a purpose” and said that he fulfilled the purpose of his life by changing the lives of a number of human beings.
Members of the house also offered fateha for the departed soul.
A copy of the resolution will also be sent to the late boxer’s family.
Ali, a three-time world heavyweight champion and civil rights activist who was an iconic figure of the 20th century, died Friday aged 74 after health problems complicated by a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The official cause of death was septic shock due to unspecified natural causes.
Political leaders, sports figures, celebrities and fans around the world paused to remember “The Greatest,” whose career spanned three decades.

Back in the 80’s he was in Chicago during Ramadan…and…he decided to pray at McCormick Place which was the spot for Eid Prayers for majority of Chicagoland at that time. McCormick Place and Toyota Park. We were there and we got pictures with him…my dad still has them somewhere and I was reeeeally young. All I remember is being in awe of him and my dad telling me I better not move or make funny faces during the pictures
It was a stampede to see him, be around him, talk to him, shake his hand…he was Great. May Allah swt rest his soul in peace.
