The Environmental Performance Index, developed by Columbia and Yale Universities, ranks the environmental performance of 140 countries based on 25 categories ranging from air and water quality to biodiversity and the use of pesticides.

4. Costa Rica
5. Colombia
6. New Zealand
7. Japan
8. Croatia
9. Albania
10. Israel
11. Cyprus
12. Mauritius
Whoever made that list must have applied some pretty screwed up criteria. Switzerland, Sweden and Norway are indeed very clean countries. But Costa Rica and Colombia? Are you kidding me? How are they number 4 and 5? The fact that New Zealand and Croatia are in the list is understandable too. I can't say anything about Japan, because I have no clue how it's like. But Albania and Cyprus are definitely not very clean countries at all. Austria/Germany are definitely above these two. Israel and Mauritius are again countries I can't really judge.
