The article doesn't convey anything of value and looks at the negative side of the tool. And the internet is just that... a tool.... just like a hammer or a knife at the barest of comparisons. Going to the bazaar, I'd never go to the magazine stands to see the skin magazines on sale. I skirt the portion and make my kids go around that section, too, if we are in a shop that contains those kinds of magazines.
The article is positive in raising, or rather, bringing to the surface some stark realities and possibilities of the use of the Net. But the article only assumes that you and I only indulge on the Net for the reasons stated. Do you? By the reasoning given in the article, and would I be wrong to say similarly, people should be forbade from going to a public library?
johny2mad and Fraudia... they are both very right in how they described the use of the Net and the ascribing of negatives to the Net. Net also gives you, a Muslim, a FAR greater freedom to excercise the expression of your faith and fight the evils of the world. So, on this, let us show where our faith stands and how we convinced we are of it's message to stand up and fight the evils that haunt the image of Islam, first, and other social evils, second.
Let us stand on this side of the fence and look the evil in the face and offer resistance, education, group support, etc.
The article also proposes dictating personal values and tastes.... or I am wrong in my understanding? If that is the case, then isn't that a violation of personal freedome of expression and the freedome of another to comsume that expression and/or thoughts? I had always thought that unless the "injustice" as committed against a person a revenge could not be had. If the injustice was committed against the Almight and/or His Prophet (sws) it would be up to Him to commit "justice".
The Net, or the use of in the sense the above article portrays, is a reflection of our own upbringing, the effects of the value system instilled in us by our families and societies that surround us.
The Net is not bad. It's what we do with it that's bad or good.
