A few of my experiences as a non-muslim
- A few months ago I asked a Muslim girl in my office for some books on Islam. She passed me some of her younger sister's school books on Islam. They were simple to read and explained things in an Australian context.
This girl also explained to me that they were Shias and that the Sunni Muslims, did not like Shias. She also stated that the Sunni's were fanatics and have given Islam a bad name. She doesnt wear a hijab, though her mom & sisters do.
Anyway, a few days later, I meet this security guard, who asked me who I was and I told him Indian/Hindu-he was OK with that. Somehow, I mentioned that we also have some Muslim girls in our office, and that they are Shia. He just exploded in rage & hate and shouted "they are NOT MUSLIMS".
Recently, I gave some donations (for the Pakistan Earthquake) to the Imam Hasan Centre, Sydney and they sent me an invitation for Lunch.
It was a very nice and clean place, fully carpeted & very modern. Even the speakers had laptop computers & used projections through that. I was welcomed by a some, some were hostile (they could read my name on the invite) .
