i mean.. i mean.. yeah.

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

Mere bachchon...everyone has an accent. It is more about your ability to project your thoughts in a meaningful manner that is more important. If someone who has been in the Great satan for 5 years wants to speak with more of an american accent, why does it get your grandmother panties in a bunch?

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

complex ..

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

and u know whats funny…talking or spending tme with chinese people…now that can completely ruin your acchi khaasi english…forget about the accent :hehe:

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

gora kab ka vapas chala gaya laikin hamaaree ghulaamana zehnyat naheen gayee..

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

What could be funnier than people living in English speaking countries and patting themselves for their accents and making fun of those who have a problem with it.

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

And you do know that if people learn another language after lets say the age of 10 or 12, its next to impossible to lose their accent?:o

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

My first post
I don’t think it is about the accent..it’s about delivering the words the way they are spoken.
For example, George ka Pakistan is naat Garj ka Pakistan
Nor it is George ka Pack-is-tan

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi’s day at school

Fayz, is that you??I missed posts by you

Rahi accent ki baat, i have been in the US for a lil over 5 years and I am told i dont have an accent at all. And i think its solely becuz i have worked with the “locals” and started speaking like them over time. ALthough like MQ mentioned, becuz of the hijab ppl think i cant even speak english sometimes and you can see the surprise on their faces when i open my mouth

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

I surprise myself when I end up saying 'rohtee' instead of 'roti' argh! but then I laugh at myself too :D

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

Ira thanks.
Well, it is natural to grow into a foreign accent if you have been living in a certain place for too long, unless one has complexes like identity etc.
My chokidaar went to Bangkok for job opportunities and when he came back he spoke Thai like it has never been spoken before :-D but the accent was very Thai. :-)

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

I think its hilarious when people who have been born and raised in the UK/USA, have perfect English accents but cant for the life of them speak urdu/punjabi in a desi accent, iv met some people down south in London who cant even pronounce their own names.

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

My accent is a proper cocktail. People have asked(on the phone) if I'm british, german, russian, jamaican and one or two others. Who gives!

Re: The really really really fresh off the boat desi's day at school

^ hehe.. i love jamaican accent. they talk like they are singing..

i have a slightly fobby accent. and it gets stronger when i am nervous.
