Contrast the incredibly complex conspiracy theory in the opening thread against the simpler one that Taliban, chased out of Afghanistan by the force brought against them by the USA, found that over the already porous border there was a place where the Pakistani government and army had virtually no authority, which the USA could not attack, and where there were many tribes and sympathisers willing to support the Taliban ideology and wishing to accomplish in the FATA what the Taliban achieved in Afghanistan. Using this safe area as a base, they continue attacks in Afghanistan.
To prevent Afghanistan being attacked from Pakistan, and to prevent local Taliban movements asserting their own authority over that of the state, the government tried to take control of the FATA.
After all, the only way to stop attacks on Afghanistan's government and allies, which Pakistan recognises as the sole legitimate authority in Afghanistan, either Pakistan has to take action to stop cross-border strikes or let someone else do it.
Bombings in the FATA and in the rest of Pakistan are the local Taliban's way of trying to blackmail the Pakistani people into making the government stop trying to prevent them from toppling the Afghan government.

A number of other faults in the article that nek Mohammed made peace with the government and then was killed by the CIA ... whereas the truth is that he signed a peace agreement that he then did not abide by (he was supposed to let the government register all foreigners in the area under his control; the government accused the foreigners of involvement in attacks). Nek Mohammed refused to produce the foreigners and the Pakistan government revoked his amnesty. The peace was over before he was killed by whoever... if the American killed him, then they were doing Pakistan's dirty work for us.
And I like the way Ashfaq Kayani is described as some kind of national saviour against foreign elements; conveniently overlooking that Kayani is trained by the Americans himself. He attended Fort Leavenworth college in Kansas; a school that during the Cold War encouraged foreign officers to study there to help build pro-Americanism in foreign armies. I'm in no way doubting his patriotism to Pakistan, buut just pointing out how the article ignores facts that don't fit into its little theory.
The article also claims that in no recent attacks were militants killed; only civilians. Countering this, the press has almost always quoted Pakistani intelligence officials as saying that the targets and often those killed were militants.
