up until the late 1700s everyone rode their horses on the left hand side of the road because most people wee right handed. This meant if it kicked off with someone coming the other way, you right arm was free for a spot of jousting. This all changed when Napoleon who didn't have a right arm, insisted his army march on the right and fight with their left arm, like him. We are in a minority, with a few notable exceptions inc. India, Japan and a few others.
Makes sense thou, since 89% of the world's population is right handed.
