thats strange, bc i've heard it does. i'm not sure though. i will try to find it if it exists. i know they r people of the book but still they have had lanath on the to. christians don't. i know there r goodd jews to, don't get me wrong as some jew hater. i just think that now is an oppurtunity to not let go by easily. truth is being revealed, we shouldn't need to hide the truth.
TUMs , you misread my responce. there is no talk of any movie here.
I was rplying to a general querry from “Pak-Canada” that muslims should not utter the word “Christ” as it is degrading to Allah (naozubillah)
Christ is as sacred to Muslims as it is to christ. ( And what a big diffrence between the 2 believes !!) It is not important whether you see the movie or not. This is a personal thing. One way or the other I’m sure it will be quite informative and corrective to some.
But you must see “MESSAGE” as well movie on the life of Prophet
Mohammad :saw:
Let me also emphasize that Quran suggested that muslims to be carefull in their dealings with jews. Yashrub ( Medina ) welcomed the migrating party of muslims from Kuraish ( Mecca ) It was Jews of Yashrub to welcome muslims and shre their homes in the end they got strayed because they could not safeguard their own interest in their own city of yashrub and therefore adopted ways of harmingnewly arrived muslims.
Quran not only warn these elements but also cautions muslims.
But there is now way the word HARAMis used against them.
It is the present Mid-east-Israili conflict that confuses the issues. specially Pakistan because the Goverment rejects Israel for its Mideast policies whereas Public rejects them because Quran say’s so..
Wallah-alam ..
Going even further off-topic, I have to say, I really envy the organization of the Jewish community. I mean, they are primarily standing together and protesting this movie and making sure their voices get heard by protesting outside of movie theatres, on t.v., etc. It's a shame I didn't see any protests like this from the Muslim community when movies like Under Siege came out (I think it was called Under Siege ... about Muslims taking over NY city) .... or the countless other movies that come out that truly are anti-Muslim. They show so much crap on t.v. shows nowadays, especially on JAG, against Muslims and nothing is said. I think this happens cause there really is no organization in the Muslim community that will bring people together and help them protest. The Jewish community is quite strong in this respect and it is quite admirable.
guys let's just discuss the movie.. i'd hate for this thread to get political...
MehnazQ, Muslims could have protested the movie.. the underlying tenet of a free society is that people should be able to make such movies and people who don't like them should be able to voice their opinions against it.. but organizations like JDL etc are out to declare this an out of bounds territory.. this kind of intolerant approach to brand everything as 'anti-semitism' and crush all criticism goes against the traditions of freedom of speech in this country.
Baba Jee, I'm not saying I agree with the Jewish protestors. I was just saying that it's great that they can band together and stand united and put up such a front. I have yet to see Muslims really do that ... for a movie!
Mehnaz.. muslims protest all the time... CAIR primarily, takes the lead in all such issues. They just successfully convinced the state of Alabama to reverse the requirements for taking off hijab for drivers' licenses. They protest bad depiction of movies all the time. The movie you are referring to is "Siege" starring Bruce Willis and Denzel Washington... and in that movie, muslims don't take over NY city, but rather due to muslim terroristic activities a martial law is imposed on NY and all muslim adult males are thrown in concentration camps. Muslim organizations had protested at that time a lot. It didn't succeed just as the current jewish protests are not succeeding and "Passion" is widely released and is doing a huge business.
Obviously, your original point stands, that compared to Jewish lobby, the muslim lobby don't have as much power or influence and movie-makers generally wouldn't give two hoots about muslim protests.
I watched the movie -opening night in a sold out cinema.
I couldn't hold back tears knowing how much pain one human being went through. Even though the film was full of blood and agony -I left the cinema liking the movie.
Now I don't know a lot about religion but I was with my fiance who does and he thought it was a good represenation. The movie does leave a lot of room for questions to be asked by the audience.
It has a strong theme of the relationship between mother and son and also of power. It shows you what the romans and jews do just because they have the power to do whatever they want.
If you are a believer -you will enjoy the film. If you are a non-believer you will begin to look into religion becoz there is no way you can leave this film and not think about it afterwards.
just saw the movie, it can be very moving if u r a christian since it is very emotional. however for me, knowing that Issa allhisalam did not have to go through ne of that ,allhamdulliah, I felt little emotion towards it. the movie is not what i call entertaining, unless ur idea of entertainment is 2 hrs of crucification and blood, and no i don't mean it in the gladiator way. there is no action scenes, just blood. however it is a great learning experience. I personally went to see it bc i think its important to know the view of the other side, and know what they believe in. the most interesting thing i found was the words that i actually understood. like when he says father he says 'abba'. and when he says death he says 'maut'. and when he says My God he says "ya illahi'. it felt a little strange bc we were the only muslims there, and everyone was staring at us, like, what in the hell r they doing here? felt kinda outta place. ne ways its interesting, and worth it to go see one of the most contreversial movies, and for the sake of knowledge, but it is not woth it for the sake of entertainment.
Going into the movie, I had heard of the reviews. The movie was supposed to be gory, graphic, explicit, disturbing, too much blood shed, etc. The movie was also supposedly anti-jewish, anti-roman and did not spread the message of Christianity which is love each other.
After watching the movie, I was simply moved. The movie was not at all disturbing. It was graphic at times, but I think it was necessary to show it. The overall message of the movie is that Jesus sacrificed himself for mankind. The movie illustrates this magnificently.
In addition, I did not find the movie anti-Jewish or even anti-Roman as I expected. If anything, it was anti-humanity. Jesus was killed because he was a threat. The people saw him as a threat which is why they had to get rid of him. His blood is on everybody's hands .... not just the Jews or the Romans. A lot of his friends abandoned him and betrayed him.
Throughout the whole movie, I sat there thinking that his death was absolutely senseless. I just kept asking myself, "where is the love". The movie really points this out to you. It makes you ask, "where is the love".
I felt for Mary. As Mizz Angel said above, this movie also portrayed the powerful relationship between mother and son. She watched her son tortured and then executed. I felt for her. It was her scenes that had me in tears.
I don't know why Monica Belluci was in the movie though. She was just the token pretty girl. She had I think a total of 3 lines.
I think this is a movie everybody should watch. You just have to go in there with an open mind.

why? u guys were wearing a sign saying we are muslims? was it THAT visible in the dark?
actually yeah, we had a couple of hijabis with us. and they don’t turn the lights off until the movie starts, in case u didn’t notice. so yeah there was enough light for them to see us.
Watching this movie is like rock climbing, you know it's causing you pain, but you want to keep going. You don't pay attention to the jagged edges, the bruises will have healed long after the memory of the ascent.
But then I disagree.
The movie is violent and justifiably so. Historically, the Romans of the time had always been brutal, and crucifixion, with all its attendant rituals of sadism, was considered extreme punishment.
But one striking thing is that while violence is lashed onto your consciousness throughout the film, you focus less on the violence as on the person enduring it. You emphatize, you react, you sob. The better part of your humanity protests bitterly against the inhumanity you see before you. And then you sob some more.
This is catharsis of the early Greek dramas, the purging of the emotions.
But that's another topic.
The way the film swings from torture to calm via flashback scenes is a masterful touch. Gibson is playing kite in this movie. He knows when to tug and when to release, which is probably why this film soars against the wind.
Well the jews who were protesting and claiming this film was anti-semitic are obviously political and religious activists who view things from a myopic viewpoint, and probably don't reflect the majority. If they cause a nuisance at the theatres it would probably be a good idea to disperse them with water cannons in the interests of free speech.
there is certainly an intense relationship between mother and son that all can relate to. we have to realize what a status she has in Islam such that only one sura in the Quran is named for a woman (Mary). There is an intense and passionate relationship that the Quran honors so in that regard, while i am morally opposed to depicting prophets (now those who have seen the movie will forever see ths actor when they think of Isa(A)), we can understand the sorrow.
