Anyways, I know what ur saying and ur totally right..but at the same time, i guess parents want to give stuff out of khushi. No doubt it's a big expense, but alot of ppl see it as a necessary expense, just like everything else abt a wedding. I don't think it's a problem until it gets abused, which it unfrotunately does way too many times. but for us, at least for my mom, it was something she wanted to do....we had to hear so much crap from our relatives at the time even though they didn't have to give one red cent (which they would've if we were in pak) nor were they ever going to be in a position to make jahez for their daughters...
