Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka’s Muslims..

and I was right…they have blocked the web-site in SL coz of the videos they published :

Continuing its undeclared war on media Sri Lanka’s government of President Mahinda Rajapkasa on Friday blocked the Colombo Telegraph in Sri Lanka, further depriving the people’s right to information.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

Right wing is just a euphemism for the Evil wing of society... Really dont have anything good to say of anything on the right of any political divide.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka’s Muslims..

I know :rotfl:

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

100% agreed.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

My thoughts exactly. I'm curious about the Dalai Lama's comments on this or the Myanmar situation.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

dalai lama is from vajrayana/tibetan school of buddhism, has very little to do with theravada buddhism. as relevant as the pope commenting on this or myanmar.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

^ Is Buddhism different in different areas?

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

yes, very very different. tibetan buddhism isn't even centered around the original buddha much. the founder, interestingly enough, was a monk named padmasambhava, from what is now swat. and blended buddhism with local faith of the tibetans and also a lot of tantric elements that he picked up from india. japanese zen and korean buddhism gets even more disconnected. the extinct schools of buddhism in northern india, pakistan, afghanistan were more or less what buddha's teachings were, but sanskritized and corrupted back with some elements of hinduism. theravada school is the simplistic and considered by many as the closest to buddha's teachings, and is practiced in sri lanka, myanmar, and other countries around myanmar. their books are in pali/magadhi (allegedly the language buddha preached in), dalai lama's school uses tibetan and sanskrit and has very few treatises in common.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

I dont believe the Sri lankans are followers of the Dalai lama, but I would still like his take on the issue... Although i think he chooses to remain silent on issues that don't directly involve Tibet. If he were to comment, i dont think he would criticize them directly. He might advise them to meditate more often.. :)

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

Had no idea about the differences as outlined in post 32.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka's Muslims..

Wonder why our Dharmasala resident has not issued a comment.

Re: The hardline Buddhists targeting Sri Lanka’s Muslims..

Neither did I. Thanks queer.

Med911, here are some of the Dalai Lama’s comments regarding this situation. As queer stated, prayers are pretty much all he’s able to offer. Dalai Lama says he has ‘more freedom’ to visit Christian and Muslim countries - Times Of India
