They have already demonstrated the ignition of gases created above the salt water in a glass test tube, what remains is to harness the process and incorporate it into an internal combustion engine like a otto cycle engine or a gas turbine.
the break through came in separation of Hydrogen from Oxygen with minimal energy expended…combustion of these two gases was known all along to be very clean.
