The Da Vinci Code

Re: The Da Vinci Code

^ who's work? he deserves the money for making that conspiracy theory popular.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

amen

Re: The Da Vinci Code

do you mean other people's ideas as in like he used da vinci's codes to get through to his granddaughter....or do u mean he just stole the idea of the church conspiracy?

Re: The Da Vinci Code

ugh, :bummer: you’re right, you guys. The ending was real screwed up. Like when she meets her grandma and all that. and why the hell didn’t they tell us where the freakin grail was  i’ve been waiting for that for like the entire book :smack:

oh yea and then i read the epilogue and it explains how langdon finds that at the end. woo hoo way to go robert.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Can i download this book?? any idea from where i can download it?? huh...??

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Man I dunno where you can DOWNLOAD any book :konfused:

You mean read it online?

Why don’t you just buy it? It’s pretty long

Re: The Da Vinci Code

tom hanks as langdon.... lame
they needed someone like gabriel byrne to do justice to the role.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

sounds interesting...

Re: The Da Vinci Code

The ending was rubbish, he rushed it, it was a silly, silly, silly ending. Tom Hanks as Langdon was an awful choice. I just hope the other characters shine and they change the ending to make it a tad more interesting.

It's a nice story though.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

MM they probably casted Tom Hanks because they wanted a leading man who can carry the movie on his own.

The character of Langdon is such that there are not many american actors around to do justice to it. To me Gabriel Byrne would have been the best choice but then he does not have the star power to be a leading man.

who would work, think of your typical hollywood list and see..and factors such as too pretty, too dumb looking, too dumb sounding, too macho, too young, too old start popping up..

I mean it really cant be tom cruise, dustin hoffman, robert deniro, stallone, sean penn, johnny depp, robin williams, steve martin, john cusack, aflecks, spacey, bruce willis, ..
compared to almost all names above..hanks seems like the lesser evil, but a lame choice still.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Gabriel Byrne has absolutely no charisma…he’s too much of a cold fish to play the role.

out of your list, what’s wrong with Hoffman or Spacey? i think the latter could be a pretty good casting.

most people wanted Harrison Ford for obvious reasons…but it wouldn’t make any sense to play such a similar role when he is already legendary in his Indiana Jones format.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I suppose Tom can carry a movie on his own, if that movie were to be about a man being stranded on a Island somewhere far, far away for a number of years. The man does not look like a cryptic person, he doesnt look as if he can solve symbolic things and still have a sense of mystery about him.

When I was reading the book, I imagined Langdon to be that British guy who plays the prime minister in “Little Britain” - I cant remember his name. I imagined Bishop Aringarosa to be Jeremy Irons and Sir Leigh Teabing to be Anthony Hopkins. Ian McKellen is playing Teabing so i suppose it’s not all that bad. I wanted Ian McKellen as Jacques Sanguiere…but oh well.

Your right about American actors, they do seem to be either too pretty or too dumb to play Langdon.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

You can download it from here:

Hope the link works. One of the books I’m planning to read after I pass my exams, insha Allah.

The author seems to have been sued and he won the lawsuit by another writer who claimed the ideas were stolen from him.

Have a great read.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Da vinci Code:

I want my 7 hours back. It was a complete let down. What a stupid ending. Arghhhhhhhhhh.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

^ Yea the ending sucked. The book was alright, but I don't like it anymore after some of the reviews I've read of it on the internet. They get you thinking...
I'll bet that guy did jack the idea, too.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

^^^ Oh sweetheart, you cant hate a book you like AFTER you read the reviews....

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I read the book, and thought it was pretty well-written. Then, I read some reviews and they got me thinking about the whole point of the story, flaws in the book, etc.

I wonder how the movie will come through. Lots of the book deals with internal thought of the characters, so I wonder how they'll display it...

Re: The Da Vinci Code

i luved it!
angels and demons was better though

the alienist is still the best

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Well, I finished the book during the weekend. I downloaded it on friday and started reading during commercials when they aired Lost, lol. I've finished it yesterday evening.

It was interesting, though, as many have allready stated, not everything is accurate of course, but then again, we shouldn't forget, it's a NOVEL, not a history lesson book.

And no, not really all his own idea's. But this is the first time I read a novel of this kind on this subject. You can say whatever you want, Brown did achieve his goal, he wrote a beststeller and because of his novel, more people are interested in this topic. (Templars, Holy Grail, etc. etc.).

I think the 2/3 of the book is very exciting and well written. But near the end it's a little less. Nevertheless a good read. I love the way he gives you the information, little by little. It's a lot to absorb and he made sure you don't drown in all that info.

If you really want to know more about the topics used for this novel, go to your library and you will find some very interesting books. They are as good a read as any novel!

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I remember when I read the book, I googled the Last Supper painting to see what the book was talking about :hehe: It was a fun read!
