Green is the colour of life. It is scientifically the coolest colour to view, because it requires lower intensities of it for us to see things clearly in green light compared to other light. In daylight red appears brighter, but in darkness green appears brighter. This to me seems like it is symbolic of when we need guidance (i.e. in darkness) we need green. It also means that when there is plenty of sensory stimulus and we are in the height of knowledge (i.e. daylight) we need red light, which is the colour of caution.
As SindSagar rightly said green is the favourite colour of Rasoolullah (SAW) also he liked black and white too.
In fact green is the middle colour of the spectrum of visible colours and it can be seen as the middle path of all colours. Islam is about taking the middle path in life. So it makes sense that Muhammad (SAW) likes and prefers all things with balance and centrality.
Other than this there is no ritualistic or rite based or holy aspect to 'green' it is a matter of reflection and preference only. Wisdom is that it compounds on the perfect example of Muhammad (SAW) being guided and loving the colour of centrality.
