A point well taken …(thanks)
but arent u ppl a bit too stuck up on manners and mennerism , Gs should be all about chaff and banter .
Secondly there is a trade off between being truthful and being appeasing I tend to sway on the truthful side . u shouldnt think I am attacking any one …I dont even know u all …Its just text that i read and text that I put. Feeling of anger/intimidation only comes when some one knows its a valid point. Turn this anger into asking ur selve and judging ur selve for why u r feeling angry rather then 2 turn into a “defensive mode” and start mud slinging.
UnderCover and Poodenay_Ki_Chutney, you both are one person using two different nicks.
Why ??
user "SaadiaB": the post by user "Poodeney_Ki_Chutney" which u quote contains two parts: one is the part which he replies. And the other part is a quote out of my post.
I guess he only copy-pasted it without putting the quote part there:
this is his part, ie what he has to say: "very well said ... GS user undercover112 .......................Its the same thing I also complained about...........chalo khair hai.....lets see who truimphs in the end"
this is my part which he apparently copy-pasted into his post without using the quote-command (if u look at my very first post, you'll find this statement there as well): "This too was the reason why in the thread mentioned by user "Poodeney_Ki_Chutney" (how ugly R) I had some "hard" words for user "Mr Xtreme" accusing him of ypocrisy: because him being the Mod of General one might at least expect from him to take the inquiry into serious consideration; instead he was the first one to relpy with a clearly off-topic post. "
Gupshup user “Mr Xtreme”: You’re absolutely right. And this is how it should be. No comment on this whatsoever, except gratitude :k:
I just want to get back to what user “Nadia_H” had to say: I’ve noticed too that in the last 24 hours more threads have been removed from General to their respective forums, is this because of this feed-back? But anyway, again: job well done! This is how I think General should be run. In my opinion two or three weeks ago those threads would have remained there.
It seems we are discussing several different topics here. Here are a few comments on some of these.
Both Cafe and General are catch-all forums, and if something does not fit in any of the dedicated forums, it can go there. Typically, Cafe is used for chit chat and socializing, while General is for more serious discussion. In my personal opinion, that is the key difference between the two. Having said that, there is, and should not be, a strict requirement to devoid General of irreverent comments. Many times these satirical comments can also convey a serious opinion. Although, it would seem that not too many members, understand or appreciate such posts. At the end of the day, the moderators remain the judge on what is suitable for which forum. If you want the moderator to take action in a specific case or want an explanation for their actions, please feel free to contact the moderator and they will be more than happy to consider your request and reply to you. If you are not satisfied with a moderator, please PM the 'Admin' with specific concerns.
As has been conveyed time and again, its not your opinion which is judged here, but only the way you present your opinion. All our non-Pakistani members will vouch for the fact that they are more than welcome to present their point of view and disagree with Pakistani members on all critical discussions. However, the rules for appropriate language are applicable for all members. If you can't figure out GUPSHUP's culture for courteous and appropriate language, please contact a moderator of your choice for more guidance. Personal attacks and insults towards other members is taken very seriously.
The point raised by ammarr is a valid one. If you feel one or more members have side-tracked the original discussion, please contact the moderator(s) and they will remove the "off-topic" posts from the original thread and either delete them or make them into a separate thread in an appropriate forum. If the offending members continue in this behavior, you can forward your complaints to the 'Admin' for more serious action.
If you can't figure out GUPSHUP's culture for courteous and appropriate language, please contact a moderator of your choice for more guidance. Personal attacks and insults towards other members is taken very seriously.
Mr don I have just one question ...please dont take sides but ask undercover and ,fighter.
Mr Xtreme,Chaltahai, zalim, and Sadiab .....were all making personal insults to me ....ok...if they thought the post was bad it should have been removed from the first go....... but no ....ur mod etc....ganged up and started making cheap street side comments about me ...being tottally judgemental, when I answered them only then they removed the thread....WHY??????
Is there any justice left in GS>
We are all just humans trying to moderate a discussion forum. If you believe that some of the subsequent responses to yourself were of an insulting nature, then it is instructive to simultaneously ask whether the thread was initiated with the intention of causing insult to others? i fear this will degenerate into you said-she said but i hope not.
The fact that we have, literally, dozens and dozens of registered, regular and extremely active members of Gupshup is testimony to the fact that there IS justice on Gupshup. Justice is always a two-way street though.
We have started off on the wrong foot; let's not continue that. Enjoy your stay at Gupshup; if you make it pleasant for yourself by participating only in positive discussions, then Insha'Allah you will find others are pleasant with you. Allah Hafiz,
nadia
A glance showed atleast 2-3 similar threads with the clowns having a field day in a serious post. If you still fail to see the problem it’ll be your bias speaking.
The thread you have posted a link to which you say is a serious post, have a look at the initial post and tell me if you see anything wrong there. So when people bite back what do you expect?
Anyway, I am aware that there are a couple of other threads where some comments are out of place, as are most people. Thanks for your input.
It is quite astonishing to see that in the last 10 days more threads have been removed out of General Forum than in the previous 100 days together.............is this because the addition of a second Moderator resulted in a better moderating of the Forum or did this thread result in some (hard) words being said behind the scenes?
It would be nice to hear how the Feedback presented in this thread has been incorporated into your policies................or perhaps it was just side-lined.
After all, it's Feedback Forum; it doesn't say there will be only Feedback from Gupshup users towards Mod/Admin team, but there should also be room for Mod/Admin to Gupshup users Feedback.
The problem with you complainers is that you are somehow unconvinced of your mediocrity. Unlike the hallowed halls of Harvard or Princeton where intellectuals and policy wonks actually have the credibility to propose something novel, most of the decriers are seeking to change the world with middling intellect and resumes and picketing starbucks.
How seriously do you want to be taken with names like Poodenay_Ki_Chutney and Undercover Brothuh? This is a website, that's it, nothing more. Most mods are smart enough not to make a mountain out of a mole hill and treat "Gupshup".... literally.
I think some of you need to take your unalcoholic beer and stop analyzing things so much. Remember garbage in garbage out.
Most people here are funny and witty. If you don't have that capacity, why cry about it? Send me $100 and I will send you the much lauded, "Chaltahai can make even you funny" tape. It did wonders for X-treme. :)
Believe, me no hard words have been said behind the scenes, although the addition of a second moderator has certainly helped. We are generally left to moderate as we see fit and general has never been a place where rules are set hard and fast. When things get out of hand, sometimes it's necessary to step in but personally I don't want to spoil the atmosphere on that forum by making it too strict. Everybody has their own value although some might not appreciate it.
There was moving around of threads before as well, just you have chosen to bring attention to it now. There'll be some who want it like this, there'll be some who want it like that. Keeping everybody happy's never easy but, you can use this forum to voice any concerns.
Chalta-hai, you must be joking. I'm the original everyone else followed the blueprint (some less successfully than others)
Gupshup user “Chaltahai”: with what degree of certainty can you state that I’m NOT from Harvard or Princeton…? but let us not dwell on the ranking of various universities around the world, we’re having a completely different debate at the moment.
as far as this comment of yours is concerned: >>>>>>>The problem with you complainers is that you are somehow unconvinced of your mediocrity<<<<<<<<
S.Freud would consider this part of ‘projection’ (in its purest form) what you are showing. (If you don’t know what it is, send me $100 and I’ll give you a seminar on psychoanalysis…)
Slowly but steadily we move further down your message: >>>>>>>How seriously do you want to be taken with names like Poodenay_Ki_Chutney and Undercover Brothuh?<<<<<
I don’t want spoil much words on this, so I’ll keep it short. But first a quote of Shakespeare’s: "What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet"- Romeo and Juliet
Furthermore, ‘UnderCover112’ is a so-called ‘speaking name’.
Concludingly, the fact that you have posted in this thread this vehemently, I’m sure that you came to the realization that this ‘club’ was among others referring to you.
Let me just say a few words.. >>It is quite astonishing to see that in the last 10 days more threads have been removed out of General Forum than in the previous 100 days together.............is this because the addition of a second Moderator resulted in a better moderating of the Forum or did this thread result in some (hard) words being said behind the scenes?<<
UnderCover112, you are right there is quite a bit of behind the scenes work. Difference is, that this has been occuring well before any second Moderator came around to the General Forum. Very few threads have come my way that require the necessity of being moved, mostly because by the time i have clicked on them and read through them to check their contents, i find that my co-Mod, Xtreme, has already taken the initiative and transferred the threads to their appropriate Forums. He was doing this WELL before i ever heard of Gupshup, and i am certain he will be doing it for quite some time afterwards Insha'Allah.
If you notice any positive differences in the General Forum in the past ten days, as you have stated, then ALL credit goes to Xtreme; but i must say none of this comes as any surprise to me because he has been doing this for quite some time now before he got a co-Mod. He does do a great deal of behind the scenes work: it's all part and parcel of being a Moderator. It's due to his credit that the General is where it is today and Insha'Allah i have no doubts you'll be seeing improvements in there over the coming weeks.
I think your need to over analyze my post clearly points to the veritable chip on the shoulder that seems to be weighing you down. No one was comparing colleges but the "Harvard and Princeton" comment was used as a euphemism for appropriate places where deep discussion can take place among people with some merit in their respective fields. Gupshup is neither an Ivy league college or General a forum to give sermons.
Lighten up francis! These points have been beaten to death. People read a few books between their shift at Starbucks and the school and all of a sudden they are experts on policy making and know the answers to every idiotic topic raised.
The shakespearean quote doesn't fly here. People choose nicks because it reflects a bit of their personality or is their proper name. So while it's cute that you are quoting the bard in an attempt to showcase your aptitude in prose...guess what it's ill placed and no one really give's a rat's ass.
The one thing I have gained from this site is meeting certain people. The "club" as you have is part of that. People tend to gravitate towards those with similar personalities and outlooks in life. This is the best offering of gupshup.
In conclusion, this is a place for social interaction, not a medium to cure the ills of the world.
I think your need to over analyze my post clearly points to the veritable chip on the shoulder that seems to be weighing you down<<<<<
It is really sad (and funny at the same the time) to see that after you have put this statement at the top of your post, you did exactly the same thing as I did........'over analyze' my post. By this we're back at square one: hypocrisy (remember that thread, because of which this all started?)

As far as I know this place is called a 'discussion' forum, so one would at least expect discussions to be taking place here. As far as the depth of the discussion is concerned, it is just a matter of personal taste whether something is called 'deep' or not.

Again this is a very premature conclusion you are making.
now I present two quotes of yours in two different posts in this thread:
How seriously do you want to be taken with names like Poodenay_Ki_Chutney and Undercover Brothuh?<<<<<<<<<<

So while it's cute that you are quoting the bard in an attempt to showcase your aptitude in prose...guess what it's ill placed and no one really give's a rat's ass. <<<<<<<<
Do you see the clear contradiction between the first quote and the bold-statement in the second? or do I have to clarify that one too?
The "club" as you have is part of that. People tend to gravitate towards those with similar personalities and outlooks in life. <<<<<<
exactly! I agree with this, but this gravitating doesn't have to go at the cost of other serious threads.......and THAT, my dear fellow, was my initial concern which I stated in this thread.
message to the Mod: if this thread doesn't come up with any more serious replies in a couple of days, you might want to close it then, because I have the feeling that user "Chaltahai"'s super-ego is losing control over his id.
(ps to user "Chaltahai": the offer for my seminar still holds.......)
first of all my personal opionion being that these net forums are the best place to have discussions on every topic under the sun . Just imagine if we would have been face to face, u would have given a rats ass and a cats ass too before making judgemental statements on peoples nicks and intellects.
I know that posts can some time be misinterpreted , as there is no body language involved but there is a trade off between incorrect preception and straight forwarddness.
second of all let me tell u something ...if u go back home more often and meet around with ppl , rather tehn being mesmerised by the western society u would know ....that the most illitiarate peasent of ur country would make a statement that would make u think twice ....well he dint go to the ivy league ...where does his intellect come from ....it comes from experience and life . U dont have to be a graduate of harvard and princeton to be intelligent and to give a befitting answer.
It is very sad to see that people who belong to the "club" have nothing better to contribute rathe then /name calling/ abbuse/ and running threads down which were posted for a purpose ...It would have been much better if u all had gravitated together to lighten the heart and the darkness , provide mental shelter, assist transformation and heal wounds. As an anthrapolagist once said dont read it rather see it and feel it.
btwU will be surprissed to know that u r not the only one who graduated from the ivy league, they have made this mistake twice.
