Re: The Classics
Is that Plato the Philosopher?
Re: The Classics
yes, i'm a history and sociology buff :)
Re: The Classics
^ Me too....
I did study Plato a while ago... Let me know how this book is like : )
Re: The Classics
You should definitely read it - the overall theme is justice in society, and the motivating forces behind human behavior (why are we just or unjust) as it affects society. I tell my students that the Republic really focuses on the correlation between a just person and a just society.
Allan Bloom has written one of the best translations. It is easy to understand and doesn't lose the meaning of the original.
Re: The Classics
That sounds interesting...I will defo have a look at that!
Thanks Amana : )
Plato's Republic and Crime and Punishment
I love Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. Especially the three kids
I remember 'Crime and Punishment', it was an interesting read, though it wasn't pleasant at all. It was a bit like a reversed detective story. Then I remembered I had read one or two other books where you also already know who did it. But this was very different from anything I had ever read. There were many thought provoking passages.
