also, i don’t get Deen (unless you pronounce it like Dean as in Jimmy Dean). otherwise, you’re basically naming your child Religion. what is that? next you’ll have boys named Masjid. its just weird, guys. not everything in urdu/any other language that is associated with religion automatically makes a good name.
Re: Baby Names
lately, i've really been digging the name Rio/Reo for a boy or a girl. its Spanish for "river"... yay or nay? i think i just like how it sounds- short and sweet.

Can't agree on baby name. What to do?
Hi there,
I am almost 40 weeks pregnant and inshallah hoping to have baby any day now. I am a little distraught though because me and my husband don't even have 1 baby boy name that we agree on. We agree on a girl name so it it is a girl, then we are ok. But if it is a boy then I am not sure what will happen. I will refuse to give in and let him have the name he wants. I'm very adamant about the names I like because they are also well liked by many others as well such as friends and family. The names he likes are not popular. Only he likes them and quite frankly I find them to be ugly names.
What is the Islamic ruling on this if husband and wife cannot agree on a name? How long can a baby go nameless? What happens if a week goes by and it is still not named?
I refuse to give in. I will be stubborn until the end. This is causing me stress and I am really beginning to resent my husband (for this and other reasons too). Please advise.
Re: Can't agree on baby name. What to do?
there is NO legal/Islamic requirement to name a baby in most countries...*...once the baby arrives, i am sure sooner or later [within a week or so] you will arrive at a compromise. in our family, we give this right to elders. the first born [if it's a BOY], this right is given to the parents/grandparents of the hubby and if it is a girl, the wife's parents/grandparents get the right to name the baby.
i don't think good meaningful names are ugly...they may be traditional names or modern names...the aim should be to select a name which represents Islamic name and it carries a good meaning.*
Re: Can't agree on baby name. What to do?
My only advice is to grow up. You're about to bring a baby into this world yet you're squabbling over a name. Whether a name is ugly is rather ridiculous. I think you meant preference. Either way this is subjective. If you're still fighting after birth then there is something seriously wrong.....
Re: Can't agree on baby name. What to do?
The names we like have good meanings. They are all from the Islamic names list. My choices, however, are liked by family and friends as well. His choices are not liked by anyone but him, yet he still insists on going with the names he likes.
The name we pick will be our baby's name for life. It is not something you can take lightly. I really want the names I have in mind as does he. That is why I am asking what we are supposed to do since clearly we are not able to reach a compromise because there is not even 1 name we both agree on for a boy.
Oh and I'm sorry but the whole letting elders name the kids thing is ridiculous. A baby should be named by its parents and no one else.
