Customer: I like this shirt, do you have it in blue?
Salesperson: I am sure we have, let me get it for you.
Customer: Perfect. Do you have any discount on this shirt?
Salesperson: I am sorry sir, but there are no discounts at this time.
Customer: Oh really? Thats too bad. This seems a bit pricey to me.
Salesperson: Well, sir, I guess we will have a Sale coming up in two weeks. I am not sure if this shirt will be on sale, but you can try.
Customer: That sounds like a good idea. But I want to buy this today. Do you think your Manager can authorize a discount on this shirt for me today, if you ask him?
Salesperson: I am not sure, sir. But I can ask him.
Customer: Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Salesperson disappears and comes back.
Salesperson: Sir, I talked to my manager, and he can only give you a 5% discount on this shirt today.
Customer: Thank you so much. But 5% is really not much. Do you think if I talk to him, he can give a better discount?
Salesperson: Let me get him for you.
The Customer walked away with a 40% discount on the shirt. He also got a 50% employee savings card to be used two weeks hence on a Special Employee sale at Macy.
I lost it a little bit now. Maybe ab khoon itna garam nahi raha…
I used to be the lemon squeezer in the good old days, back in pakistan.
I remember once I even got into a really TIGHT spot in Darra (Peshawar) where I offered like Rs. 100 , for a T T , for which the khan bhai was asking Rs. 800. He thought it was an attack on his Pakhtoo
Now I do bargain, never let an opportunity pass. Not with the same vigour tough
Some khans will not sell anything without a haggle.
I remeber once in Lahore we were chatting at Mall and a person was haggling with a khan who was selling a carpet. Khan went as low as 700 Rs but this guy did not want to par more than 500, so he left. One of my friend said to this khan that he will buy it for 700, but Khan said, no, i will give for 800 not less. He said you were just ready to offer it for 700 to other guy, he said coz he haggled with me for so lang thats why. So my frind started haggling and eventually bought it for 650.
Another "trick" that someone told me is that if you have bargained a good price from a vendor, do not buy anything after that, coz he now knows where you would tend to settle and "wo kasar poori ker ley ga"
I've tried using "What's the best price I can get?" and I really get nothing, but the price originally offered in return, or "pay cash and you don't have to pay the tax."
