The arrow of Time

Re: The arrow of Time

^ there was something I read abt a person on top of a mountain aging faster or slower.due to gravity wrt one at base of mountain. Same concept I think.

Re: The arrow of Time

Twin paradox.

Re: The arrow of Time

If I recall one twin lived at base of mountain and other at top?

Re: The arrow of Time

^Yes. -__-

Re: The arrow of Time

So technically speaking we are back to square one in terms of Time Travel. Other than very local areas/elevations, at every other place in space, time flows at different speed as you guys are talking about. Time at the top of the mountain vs base of the the mountain, time at moon vs earth, etc. So locations that are spatially connected, are still temporally disconnected, which probably does not make time travel impossible, but at least more complicated (theoretically speaking). So in short, you can travel back to 1964, only if you atrt your journey from the very same spot that you want to visit back in time, or the special theory would give you a major heart burn.

And then what about the Law of conservation of Mass and Energy? Time travel violates that law. The 150 lbs of flesh and blood that Mr. Southie is, was not there in 1964. He cannot just show up in that time, at least not without sucking the equivalent amount of energy from the system. That means that is like sucking 1.4615e+3 megatons of TNT worth of energy from the system for him to show up in 1964, and releasing the same amount of energy in 2014 for him to disappear from here. Of course we can throw the nature is some sort of dis-balance and violate the law for few hours (without sucking or releasing extra energy) if that trip is a round trip, but one way trip would be a disaster.

Re: The arrow of Time

How did you come up with that 1.4615e3 Mega tons of energy?

Excellent guess on my weight, I must say!

Re: The arrow of Time

Because of E=MC^2

I used the calculator at the bottom of this page to report the relevant unit of the energy

E=mc squared

Re: The arrow of Time

I see!

Re: The arrow of Time

aur wo bhi "in a while" :p

Re: The arrow of Time

^Of all people.. heh. -__-

^ I dare you to go all Shaniqua on him

Re: The arrow of Time

How many Mega tons of energy for Shaniqua

Re: The arrow of Time

and if southie wants to change his past, correct his mistakes he did in past?
can he reappear in his o level exams and change his mark sheet?
