that’s true, it doesn’t guarantee anything. but maybe it’s the least that can be done. then there are also examples where if parents try to keep things away from their kids too much, over-shelter them, the kids get curious and go after what they’re being sheltered from. i’ve seen parents do that with their teens- like restricting TV from them because of vulgar TV shows or commercials (i guess the bud lite commercials? no clue)- but that doesn’t guarantee that they won’t drink in the future, it may go the opposite way and cause them to become more curious.
