if you are confused what is going on, there is no harm in clarifying it so you know what you are getting yourself into... you should ask about the process ... it will show the other party that you are taking active interest in this...
Chachoo, one thing I just found out was that they contacted all my references, and the company where I did my senior hardware project at. I will try to find out more details tommorow.

if they are contacting your references then it means one of 2 things
1) they want to hire you simply on the basis of the phone interview, which is unusual but not impossible.
2) They are a contracter-bodyshop-recruiter who is checking your references before they present you to their client company.
Now as far as the person giving you examples of his work at the company. It could be a situation like this.
John works for XYZ consulting, XYZ consulting serves as contractors to ABC corp. XYZ consulting needs to find more resources for work at ABC corp and are trying to find the people. When they interview you, John is there because he understands ABC corp and will see if you are a good fit for ABC corp in addition to being a good fit for XYZ consulting.
That may be the more likely case, but thats speculation based on what I have noticed and seen.
Regarding the letterhead thingy, my bet is that they added your name to the firm letterhead to see if the name "Spock" would look just a little too goofy.
If they have a "Kirk" and a "McCoy" already on the team, my guess is that you won't get the job.

Well, it wasnt any consulting agency or anything that interviewed me. That was basically a phone interview, that they did to screen candidates, and now they called me for an interview next week.
its unusual that they called your references before meeting you face to face. Unusual but good...once they start calling references, that means an offer is almost certain. Goodluck
Thanks, but the thing is, when she talked to my references (I went to one of them and asked him how the conversation went), he mentioned that they said that I was in the top pool of applicants, so I guess there would be some more applicants alongside me, so thats what worries me, but thanks for ur help! Lets see what the coming week holds for me.
