so the number of teenage abortions from 1042 in 2006 went upto 1171 in 2007, thats not so 'shocking'?... That just means the UK govt needs to do a better job with its contraception strategies. Now obviously they cant DICTATE what the people do or force little girls to wear chastity belts, so theres nothing else they can do apart from improving the former.

As a vulcan I thought you would be more logical. By increasing contraception and decreasing the age of sex education and seeing the increase has already meant the strategies are not working.
The threat of unwanted pregancy and disease is mitigated by contraception and by making it more available the threat will become next to nothing. However, contraception is not perfect so despite the threat being reduced it will not mean that greater use of contraception will prevent the unwanted pregnancies.
The issue of abortions is a secondary issue the root cause that nobody is giving any value to is the act of irresponsible sex ... meaning doing so outside marriage or outside the financial means to raise children that could result from that sex.
The best way to prevent abortions in any age is to prevent the act of irresponsible and unethical sex. Not to promote the sex by duping the people into believing that the risks are no longer present. Furthermore, by selling sex enthusiasm in the schools via sex and relationship studies you will get more problems.
The best chastity belt is the one worn over our minds by choice.
