Re: Teeka & Jhoomer - The Origins

I would have to see some other frame of reference because a lot had already transpired in the world before the beloved Noor Jehan came along....

Re: Teeka & Jhoomer - The Origins

No one can pin point the origin of jewellery; and particularly jhoomer and teeka origin, however talking about the start of jewellery (neckace, teeka/jhoomer, wasit band, rings, earrings and chains.....etc) was from Egypt (using gold with lapis, feroza/turquoise and some off-whitish stones very common] like seeap [mother of pearl]) and the craft evolved. I believe teeka originated from there as part of jewellery, and once the trade grew it was generalized.

And Mughals didnt gave birth to jewellery[teeka and jhoomer], it was used and made before their time as well, if you want to picture it, its more like Indus (Sindh and Rajhistani style/ dress and jewllery).

Re: Tika's

sorry if this offends anyone, but does anyone know the origin of the teeka? It seems to be hindu influenced. I know in our wedding alot of what is done is hindu influenced and I was wondering what the significance of the teeka is? again, i do apologize if anyone is offended.
