I'd have to disagree somewhat with that advice... A "peripheral" attitude is something you don't want to see in teachers. If they want to seriously take it up as a f-t or p-t career, sure... but it has to be more than just a job. There's too much at stake in terms of the impact teachers have on their students, and I wouldn't want some aunty teaching my kids at school only cuz she had nothing better to do.
That is so true.......A teacher's attitude determines how a child perceives a particular subject or even the whole experience of going to school.
I know personally , I never developed a passion or even understanding for maths purely because the teacher always either concentrated on the geniuses in class , and never bothered explaining things to us simpletons or expected you to come and take tuitions from her.........
Now my grades were not bad enough to warrrant tuition but not good enough to warrant attention from her in class so I ended getting a B in my O Levels where i'm sure I could have gotten an A if she had made the subject more interesting or appealing.......in summary I've always hated maths !
Teachers have an important part to play in a child's development....not only academic but overall...........people should go into it because they have that passion to nurture a child's mental growth not because its an "easy job"
best career in the world...in fact virtually all other careers can exist only because of teachers..the absolute joy when a kid gets it...when you have improved there world even a little bit or their behaviour...and when the kids grow up and come back and tell you they wished they listened to you earlier and you get to give them the look which says 'i told u so'..and ask them to lecture your class... perfect... i miss it so
Close your eyes and think back to your best and worst teachers... those memories are so vivid and so accurately portray the power a teacher has over your lives
I've only ever heard Pakistanis (from Pakistan) say being a teacher isn't a real profession. Even if you go on to teach at an elite private school, it still isn't a 'real' profession. Nonsense if you ask me. Teacher's help mold future adults. It's an important profession, don't know why it's looked down upon. The only people who I have come across who have this mentality are the same ones who think that you are a failure if you aren't a doctor/engineer.
