Bump this topic again. In another thread in this same forum, someone posted a video from The ministry of vice/virtue in Saudia Arabia. Now they are OTT often, but that video was very interesting. They showed examples of rings and taweez that have perversions of the Quran written on them. And that they're actually ways to call on Devils to influence the person wearing them.

Yikes, so then who knows what these taweez's etc have in them. He even opened a taweez that one would wear around their neck (but in Arabic design, but similar concept to the black taweez that we wear, and he shows how the verses were contained within those taweez, but written in perverted ways or written with perversions on them, etc.

Perverting the verses of the Qur'an and using them ? ... Those ta'weezes are forbidden ... They are a form of black magic ... The verses of ta'weez should be clear if used ... Better to recite ourselves ...

The thing is when someone is giving you a taweez, you may not see the verse's written that way, because they're hidding. When we were kids, our families would give us those black cloth taweez to wear around our necks, I wonder if I found them (dunno where those even are), and opened them, whether I'd find stuff like verses written backwards. I mean, being desi and not being able to read Arabic that well, I don't know if I could figure out if the perversions are slight.

It would be quote obvious to see a perversion and to suspect one .... Whatever you wear around your neck hoping it will be a device that Allah (SWT) brings one cure and protection should be opened and read carefully. Anyone who convinces you otherwise is bogus.

Taweez with Qur'an ayaat is generally permissible if there are no words of shirk or kufr written in them.

The proof I’ve heard of its use is what TLK posted earlier. I’ve also heard it from ulema. If you’re looking for something more academic it would take longer to find. I did however come across this:
