I think the universe conspired for Taliban victory. Although Trump and Pompeo are talking tough now, boosting Fox News ratings but they too saw far bigger challenges for America than Afghanistan. Yet they won’t speak the truth. According to an often quoted study, the cost of these wars so far is USD 6.4 Trillion. That is 12 zeroes.

Pakistan offers a healthy rate on its bonds but they took a hit this week due to what happened in Afghanistan.

I see China as the near and long term threat. Russia is living off its Soviet union glory days and is resigned to a junior partner err poodle to China like Australia is to the US. I think that UK even is a notch above where Russia is now. China’s population growth has slowed but they have a bigger base than Russia’s 140 million and shrinking.

NATO and EU is held hostage by Russia’s neighbors like Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia among others. We could have had better relationship with Russia if it hadn’t expanded into Eastern Europe and the Baltics.

Nature has a way of balancing everything out as it wouldn’t be a Tom Clany novel. If Russia was allied to the West then China would have been further behind in military technology. After all, JF-17 was made to be flown by China until they leapfrogged into the eighties by buying Flankers and license producing them.

Subtract from that the current inflation, which is 1.4%: 1.86% - 1.4% = 0.46%

0.46% is a terrible rate of return after having your money stuck in an investment for 30 years.

A decade of negotiating with the Taliban, they must’ve been able to come to some sort of conclusion. Also, by the looks of it, Taliban seems to have stepped up their PR game, this Suhail fellow isn’t spewing non-sense, unlike Taliban PR of old.

Besides, Taliban doesn’t stand a chance in hell of surviving this decade if they do not change their ways. If not the US, then some other superpower will occupy it without merit or any logical reason for doing so.

I’m not a finance person but I agree US realized the cost of this war is killing them. Look, the US war lords made a ton of money in the first decade of this war.
