Tailored tux for the Valima groom instead of suit

whats wrong with a bow tie?

how formal the valima is going to be? if its a black tie event, that means the ladies are in outfits like ghararas and heavy sari’s and the guys are all in tuxes. mentioning this on the invite will make it obvious to their guests too.

otherwise, if its a formal event but not a black tie event, then its like a regular valima, in which case a bow tie wearing groom might look out of place and a tie would be preferable. an ascot (the pic posted above) looks very good too and is different if thats what he wants.

of course, traditionally ascots are also worn at really formal events with tail-coats and morning suits, but i’ve seen guys wearing them with regular length jackets too and it looks very good.

then of course theres the school of thought that says its the groom’s event- so if the bride gets to go all out and dress up in a special outfit, why can’t he dress up in a bow tie and tux instead of a regular suit that he can wear any other day? basically it all comes down to personal preference if the family isn’t that anal about dressing-up etiquette, which most desis aren’t.
the only thing i can think is that in the pic above, the tuxedo’d groom is looking way more formally dressed up than the bride in pink. it just doesn’t look very equal.

i’ve never attended a black-tie desi wedding- has anyone? how did their dress code translate for desi clothes?

***Nothing is wrong but the mom herself doesn’t like look at all. She feels all the relatives would have a great laugh at her son’s expense after the pics float around.

The valima is not a black tie event, just a regular one. The ladies would most probably be heavy sari’s, the younger crowd would be in pishwazes and the guys in suits.

Can’t suggest tail-coats and/or morning suits, but I think that’s a good option if they can be worn with regular length jackets. I think I can put the idea forward as the groom desperately wants to wear something new for his Valima that hasn’t been done to death by others. He also wanted to switch the dressing around by wearing a suit to the wedding and sherwani on the Valima but I think his mom had a ‘killer glint’ in her eye the whole day.
