Re: Supreme Court condemns GEO TV - issues strict code of conduct for media
at minimum it proves that there is a problem with reporting in Pakistan.

as far as Pemra, it is dealing with illegal broadcasts, just like FCC does. other stuf i saw like chaning fare to fair, and operatrors to wners and operators does didlly squat really. show me specifically what the issue is with it, I asked in that thread to but ppl are more used to posting long cut and pastes without really pointing out specifics.

I dont really understand the legalese, the text of the article does say that PEMRA will have wider ranging powers against broadcasts it deems illegal.
Does FCC have the power to confiscate equipments and seal buildings? If so, under what criteria? Just because there exists an agency here (PEMRA) and an agency there (FCC) doesnt mean you can give PEMRA the right to say, shoot the editor in the head because the station did what it regards as illegal or against national interests.

regardless, supreme court action just proves that there is an issue with newscasts, kamran khan just was the worse of the bunch probably.

The supreme court has since May 3rd said nothing about the newscasts. PEMRA has had issue with the coverage of the lawyers protests which was what.. June 2 or 3. No connection between the two.

incidentally teh court has said what others were saying earlier, let court deal with it and not make it a media circus, which the defendant and his pals were making it anyways.

Once again, PEMRA's action has nothing to do with the Supreme Court's injunctions on media coverage.
