Actually it turns out that International Maritime Bureau had previously publicized that the ship had been hijacked and even provided coalition forces and other agencies with photographs of it.

India should leave pirate-hunting to professionals such as the coalition force who bother to set up links with civilian international bodies and cease its own, proven amateur efforts.

Choong said that photographs of the Thai vessel had been sent out to the coalition naval forces and other agencies when it was hijacked as “the fishing boat was actually an ideal mother vessel for the pirates.”
“The Indian navy may have not received this information as they are not part of the coalition forces and we have no direct link with them,” he said.

Indian navy did not know that they are attacking a pirated ship. Indian forces are not part of the coalition to which the photos has been sent. They have the right to take action against a threat. Its sad loss of life.

I think Indian navy thought people on that ship were Kashmiris, that is why they did not bother to confirm their identity before killing them.

It is time for India to call back its Naval forces from the Somali waters so that they can patrol the Indian coast, and stop the alleged foreign dinghies infiltrating their borders. I am sure the Indians would agree, internal needs come first.

Being an Indian yourself you should volunteer to guard Indian coastal waters...since your govt is incapable of doing it.

Basically, what you are saying is that the Indian Navy is unprofessional. With all the sophisticated equipment on-board, how can you not know what you are attacking? All commercial/freight ships have unit numbers, registration numbers, TEU's and many other texts written on them for identification purposes. All it takes for one is to read them and verify the ship from their relevant sources, not blow them to smithereens.
