Ravage I am in full agreemen with you, and I used to be part of vttp as well. you raise good points and that is why, initially I suggest that tge team takes a smaller topic, one which is easieer to assess, use that s a learning experience and then depending on number of people and level of commitment of people, plus level of knowledge.
The challenge for me is that I dont have the type of time to do justice to this, and am looking to see who can.
as I said, I have a seperate domain for it already, we would be willing to provide shared workspaces and all that for easier coordination.
To be honest I am still unsure how we will go about doing this anyways. Its an idea, but an idea without a plan is worthless.
i think perhaps before you start looking for people to lead something you should have a pilot coordinated by yourself or the mods of PA that just give a forum to people on this board who have pet projects of their own in mind to showcase what they can do. and based on that you could select people who show results and real motivation to continue your work.
if anyone sets a really specific agenda from the get-go then that is a de-motivating factor for the rest of the people who might want something else, which is something that a shaky place like a web community can ill afford. thats a feeling i got from vttp.
secondly there is a problem of standards that you run into. based on the experience of Gupzine, there was a real problem of expectations of my contacts about the quality of people/work involved versus the general motivated people who might not be the same level of maturity or even language. there are unfortunately ego issues which is something you have to cater to particularly for people who may have influence in the "real" world who are often quite inflexible. how do you dodge that without being elitist, but that is something you have to deal with. i mean an output coming from a web forum has a dodgy perception to deal with from the start.
