I am talking specifically of hinds, and not other helis. 300 - 350 hinds shot down. Other helis not included in this figure.

Actually given the lack of anti-aircraft firepower used in the FATA by the terrorists, helicopter gunships may actually be a good idea.

AH-1 Cobras are fine for coutnerinsurgency, AH-64 Apaches only are a big advantage against high-tech foes.

The Russians only suffered heavy gunship losses in Afghanistan after 1986 when Stinger missiles were availabel to the mujahideen. Stingers only have a limited lifespan without maintainance and it it extremely unlike that any of them from the 80s still work.

However, using force alone for counter-insurgency is always counter-productive. The bulk of the effort must be incentive, force can only be part of the solution. The first step must be providing adequate protection for tribal elements that cooperate with Pakistan. This means flooding the FATA with troops and being prepared for the resulting casualties amongst our soldiers.

Deployed forces must be mutually supporting and have rapid reaction forces readily available.

Simultaenously, real economic aid must be provided to communities that cooperate. The goal is to ultimately make tribes turn against internal anti-Pakistan elements.

Before we flood FATA with anything, we need to train our forces on counter-insurgency tactics and equip them properly. FC's equipment is a disgrace. Even the army does not have many armoured vehicles in the area.

^Ya, wondering where the Billions of dollars in American funding is going if they dont even have any armoured vehicles?!?!?

Considering how low tech the terrorists are, advanced technology of any sort should be enough to route them...
