Just recently I came across two stereotypes against Muslims. They were fascinating and I sort of enjoyed them.

I was at KFC waiting for my turn in line when all of a sudden this woman starts up a conversation with me enquiring where I’m from (ie. country) and asked a few other questions. Then in the end she apologized for talking to me as she believes or has been told that Muslims or perhaps Muslim women aren’t allowed to talk. To that I gave her this weird confused look and she walked away. She was one of those absent-minded crazy ladies who’d just start talking to anyone she comes across.

While at work, my co-worker calls up her mom and in the end says ‘I love you’. I smiled and I asked her ‘was that your mom or bf’? She said it was her mom. So I asked her why would you say ‘i love you to your mom’, that too every single day. She said she is very affectionate and then she goes how she feels/thinks Muslims aren’t very affectionate people. I laughed at what she said and told her how it could not be applied to every single Muslim. Apparently some Muslim dude at her other workplace isn’t all that nice and affectionate towards his wife. I told her how I’m very close to my mom and sister and would do nice things for her, but not necessarily say ‘i love you’.

I enjoyed the 2nd stereotype more than the first one as I happen to be reasonbly close with her and it was just interesting to hear what she had to say.

Have you personally come across any streotypes against Muslims or Pakistani Muslims for that matter? I’d love to hear all about’em.

In both instances I guess you were the guilty person in stereotyping.

I can Imagine you at KFC meal order queue all dressed in ‘Hijaby style’ prompted others some how to start a conversation and once the ‘Passing wait-time’ was over and an apology and a wave hurled at you & “The end” :elmo:

This other part is your own thinking as a result of your own stereotyping.

stereotyping and occurrences can subside :k:

Raindance, unlike you, I do not make up stories on my own.

The lady at KFC was a lil weird. I wasn't the only one who she striked up the conversation with.
My co-worker and I are good friends. She also knows it well that I'm not the type of person who'd easily get offended, hence, she speaks her mind.

much of that has got to do with media …
and it has not happened in a single day - it has been a systamatic brain wash…

muslims in general have been ridiculed and projected as sword bearing and AK47 carrying bearded fanatics - after the GiyarVeeNH shareef

and we have not been able to successfully ward off these images , through effective media campaigns of our own as we were too busy sorting out which one of the 72 firqaz of islam are the true muslims and who will ultimately go to Jannat to enjoy the hoor’s company

Regretfully , the images of masked persons carrying sword in hand and reciting from the Quran , while standing behind a kneeling captive, just before he is beheaded , is THE image of muslims ( goraz generalize too much :o ) that has been etched into the stupid Gora minds , for now at least.
