ehsan bhai's hidden likeness for Afridi has finally revealed (unintentionally though). :p
As far as Kumbal is concerned, he was an effective bowler in his own way. His bowl will never spin, the batman was always confused which way its going to turn. But it won't, until few overs later. It is said that his every 26th delivery would spin and thats the one he used to take wicket on. It was quiet frustrating for batsman, as after playing 25 straight balls he was sure of impotency of the bowler, only to get out on first spinning one.
stats only matter when they team actually use it and win the match. otherwise, these stats are like tendulkar’s centuries. otherwise gayea, bhens or team pani main
trust me every time sachin failed india lost big time.where as when he scored runs century or not winning percentage has huge rise or atleast close to winning a match (entire 90s he was the only guy)
Most of Sachin's match-winning or good knocks have been in 1st innings (tests) or while batting first (ODI). W'd be glad to be proved wrong but I have n't seen Sachin win many games for India batting 2nd in ODIs. And in pressure situations, there are many batsmen who are better than Sachin IMO
Having said that Viv was n't the best player of spin IMO.
Funny you mentioned that. In the 1976 India tour of Windies, I remember at least 2 occasions when Richards was dropped by Kirmani off Venkat, each time he went on to score big.

sorry for late reply
i dunno what you mean't by match winning innings.last time i checked sachin had better average then is contemporary players like lara, pointing, dravid e.t.c while chasing (in ODI.pressure is more in ODI compare to tests atleast while chasing ).i would agree he is not a finisher or being at the end and hitting a finishing shot like dhoni.but you can't expect a opening batsmen to do a dhoni or bevan. most of the time sachin would be playing with new ball which would be moving.if you look at his batting stats most of pressure time he would have either got out early or scored big.not like he got out after scoring 30-40 runs due to pressure
coming to tests his average somewhere around 44 plus while batting second compare to 56 which is overall average.many great players have 44 has thier overall average
he has the highest number of man of the matches.that alone says he is able to change match in his team favour.and one last thing i wanted to say.i think sachin himself said this with all the technology and statics guys 24x7 on finding weakness of a player batting has become more difficult.dunno may be even viv would had a weakness
