I must admit when they dragged him out of retirement and pushed to captain the Test side then I was very skeptical as well. But Misbah has proved all skeptics wrong. Also management likes him which means his has the suave to manage the potato head bureaucrats in PCB as well...so Good for him and Pakistan cricket and fans as well.
Another thing I noticed that he is also working on his own weakness of non-risk taking and over conservatism as well. Now and then he wants to break loose and hit out, which he needs if he wants to win the tight matches which require risk taking and aggression.

He has done well so far, though only on non threatening pitches.

Without taking any thing from Misbah other things that has helped I guess is
1) punishment of Salman, ASif and Aamir
2) removal of most of the khalifas from the team. Its better that we get Shoaib Malik out soon too before he starts his dirty politics once again.

Agree that their punishment probably has had a major impact on the straight shooters in the team. But I still don't feel comfortable with Umer A and Shoaib. Also you can still see some favoritism on selection.

Without taking any thing from Misbah other things that has helped I guess is

I can't say if elimination of Asif and Amir from team (for any reason) is of any help towards team success, I can say removal of Salman may have helped in terms of NOT purposely losing, getting out cheaply at will etc but if Amir and Asif were still with the team we probably would be even stronger.

Yousuf is out,
Shoaib Akhtar is out
Kamran Akmal is out
Asif is out (ok he was a really good bowler but think about the effect of charsi, corrupt player on the dressing room in the whole)
Shoaib Malik is sidlined

^^ yeah how soon we forget the disease once its gone..I totally forgot about Kammy. But does MoYo fit into the definition of khalifa? He had become an issue but that is because for some reason him and YK got into odds...right? and MoYo made it a personal issue...so he is out..
Shoaib is back bhai ....pawwa talking big time there..his inclusion even took Asad out of the team....
And Akhtar ...he was a different problem...but gone now.

I’d be more happy to see that SR with 30+ average. Shahid’s SR was never in a question anyway.

Misbah is lucky that he does not have to face any player/ coach politics during his captaincy, moreover, PCB is quite busy in clearing its name and planning for some home series, which is why they are not meddling in his captaincy as well.

He's made his own luck and deserves the success and the captaincy. That said, its time the selectors understand Misbah and Younis will not be around for the next World Cup. They should both stick to playing test cricket, giving a chance for both to prolong their careers, and also give the team a chance to build a good young unit for the next WC.
