I was watching fox sports to catch up on some soccer stuff i had missed out, when my main opposition for remote control's control..i.e. my wife asked me "can we see what is on the networks, its prime time"
with an evil laugh, I turned to abc, then cbs and nbc...and then back to fox..
wifey did not bother me about what else is on the rest of the evening.
Thank you George W. Bush, I suggest a state of the union address every week :)
"Also Kerry ought to brush up a bit instead of giving a vacuous response. For example, "Bush has no Health Care plan". Well, dummy"
Well dummy is correct. The Kerry "Health Plan" is really a worked over Teddy Kennedy health plan. For years Kerry only had one staffer dealing with Healthcare issues, while Kennedy had more than thirty, particularly scattered over staffers working on committee payrolls.
Did you notice Teddy behind Kerry at the celebration in Iowa? Their Millie Vanilli was perfect. You could barely see Teddys arm sliding up Kerrys back, making his mouth move. They are like peas and carrots. Kerry is a surrogate Teddy, with no blondes in the ponds. Watch and see...
Please, for God’s sake, no. That is pure torture…the dozen standing ovations, the continuous applause, that annoying perpetual smirk on his face, the lies, the repititive words “democracy, freedom, and justice”, and “they” hate us because we are oh-so-wonderful. Even given once a year, this speech is too much to digest.
I would have watched "American Idol", rather than the State of the Union. At least there is a judge present to point out when the performers are off key.
You got to hand it to Teddy Kennedy. At least he had the balls to stay seated and shake his head (or was it just the shakes?) when he didn't like what he was hearing.
Hillary grudgingly got up for a couple of standing o's with the look of a petulant child made to stand still for a photo. If you don't want to stand up, stay the f in your seat and stand by your convictions (assuming you have them). Bush was all ideaology without apology-fairly sound and reasonable and not-so-conservative-in-all-cases idealogy BTW. Everything that came out of his mouth would have been lapped up and given creedence had it been spoken by Clinton, Kerry, JFK, Clark..whoever. Bush hatred has made cement out of the brains of a lot of otherwise reasonable people.
That said, a repeat of "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" (not aTed Kennedy reality show) would have been most welcome viewing.
I would have prefered the British Parliament model, with booing and hissing. Or perhaps Taiwan, where fights break out from time to time. Passion is conveyed by microscopic shaking of heads. sort of pathetic really.

Regardless of who the individual is, if he's spouting garbage and lies that have been regurgitated previously without evidence to back them up, then it reeks. That's the difference. Not whether it's Bush or Clinton or Mother Teresa.

Teddy's disapproval was carefully orchestrated...

I think the thought bubble above his head might have read something like,
"Unbelievable, I gotta sit through this crap again...Man this is longer than usual..holy crap! Are there bats in here? What the hell was that? Wait...maintain..maintain. Bar close isn't for a couple of hours. Uncle Soakey needs a scotch big time!..Whoa! What the hell was that?....Man, I would totally do Condi. Uggh! C'mon! C'mon let's wrap it up, Junior."

Pray tell then Nadia, why did you even watch the speech?
You couldn't pay me to listen to a chretien speech, or listen to some mullah spout garbage about zionist conspiracies.

Specifically which lies were regurgitated? WMD equipment? Good thing that Sadaam is gone? Associative group health plans? Education standards for students?

To understand in which direction he will be taking his country in, and therefore in which directions other countries will be heading. As much as i would LOVE to ignore his lies, unfortunately - it has too much effect upon what happens in Canada at the border and also in other Asian countries where many of my family members reside. And for your information, i switched off the tv and slept when he started talking about domestic issues. The foreign policy ones are the ones i am more interested in.

Yeah i feel the same way whenever Sharon's face rears its head on a tv screen.
Yes the WMD one. Those nuclear facilities that were discovered by the US team, right ? Or was it those chemical warfare weapons we discovered that Hussein was planning on using and could be deployed in “45 minutes” according to Blair? Or was it those ‘mobile biological warfare units’ the US team recently discovered in Iraq, the ones that Powell discussed in his UNSC speech? Everything that Blix and his team failed to discover, was magically revealed to exist by the US, right? i must have missed this amazing bit of news in the past six months.
And as for your second question - i’ll thank you to stick to the topic unless you want us to go down the route of hurling sniping comments at each other again?

I still don't understand Nadia. If Bush is spewing nothing but lies, how can you accurately gauge his policies and/or stances on key issues? Are you SURE you just weren't looking for something to attack him on? (just curious)

Obviously, foreign policy issues affect me directly if i have family members who are constantly flying in and out of Canada and will be affected by particular clauses of his "Patriot Act" or through border issues, even if they do carry Canadian citizenship. i would like to be aware of what's going to happen in border/security issues so i can be prepared for what changes that has upon MY family's travelling plans. Sorry to burst your bubble, but i don't feel the need to watch him on tv to "attack him". i can do that quite well by reading a Chomsky book and coming on gupshup. Sorry, Stu, not everyone who is critical of Dubya is anti-American if that's what you are fundamentally implying. We've been through this topic a billion times. i am amazed that you don't seem to comprehend it yet.
I think the extent to which Dubya alluded to WMD was in reference to the Kay Report which has indeed discovered some evidence of your above mentioned weopons programs. Now you may have some residual disgust about Powell’s U.N. presentation, yellowcake, etc, but Bushie did not in any way “regurgitate” any of those things you regard as lies. So, I really think that you may not have been listening closely. You don’t like Bush very much, do you?

Are you serious? That's absolutely not accurate and we both know it.

Ohh, so you've only ever been critical of Bush? Could you refresh my memory on how you felt about the Clinton administration's policies on Israel and Iraq for instance?
