Spousal immigration process for Canada

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

Congrats! Your husband got his visa?
Yea there is a difference in the processing time for citizen sponsorship vs resident, but after the interview it's all the same wait.

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

If your spouse lives in Pakistan then yes it's 28 months or so. It depends on what country your spouse lives in.

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

thank you all for your advice. i was specifically concerned about the Canadian visa process, I guess everyone has affirmed that it is taking long. Any more people know the reasoning behind the nikaah before rukhsati concept, assuming the nikaah is considered to be the actual marriage?

Also anyone had any luck with applying for a visit visa and it get approved whilst the immigration process is on going? Or has anyone applied for a visit visa first on the basis of marriage and then applied for the immigration?

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

I applied from Europe, the application goes to London, therefore takes shorter time for it to come though. I had my immigation within 6 months. I was also allowed to live in Canada with my husband as a "visitor" during that time. The reason is not special treatment or anything, it's just that the waiting list is shorter. The reason it takes 2-3 years for pakistanis is because there are so many people applying!

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

Does anyone know if the Canadian super visa applies to spouses as well or only parents and grandparents?

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

^ I’m pretty sure its only meant to be for parents and grandparents:

Who is eligible for a parent and grandparent super visa?

To be eligible for the super visa, applicants must be the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Dependants of parents and grandparents are not eligible for the super visa. However, they can apply for a regular visitor visa. The super visa applicants must also be found admissible to Canada and meet some other conditions.

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

Thanks! Thats what I thought. I was asking actually for my BIL. He is getting married in Pak next year, and I saw on the website right now is a 31 month processing time. My FIL keeps saying "koi nahin, we will get her a super visa and she can come and stay here while her immigration is processing". I tried to explain to my husband, but they still think that a super visa includes the spouse.

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada

Only grandparents and parents. Normally it's hard to get a visa for a spouse .. You really have to prove to them that he is a genuine visitor and will be able to leave if asked. You have to showcase that he has a reason to go back to pak

Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada
