Re: Spousal immigration process for Canada
I’ve heard, on average, it takes between 2.5 to 3 years now.
People do nikah because the person sponsoring the spouse is usually working/studying abroad so it would be unwise to send him/her to be with the spouse for the duration of the process. A better idea is to have both people working in their respective countries/careers and save $ for the future.
A friend, who recently got married in Pakistan and lived with her husband before coming back, said to me that it would have been a good idea to not have rukhsati right away because you miss your spouse so much when you come back and long distance relationships are tough. A lot of misunderstandings can happen due to the timing difference and not being able to communicate properly. Also, if the girl gets pregnant (and most, who do, want to have their child abroad), the husband will not be there to support her during the pregnancy. They’ll miss out on many moments that should be spent together.
I get the pregnancy thing but people can use birth control right. Plus the nikaah is the actual marriage, the rukhsati is just the party so wouldn’t you miss your spouse after the nikaah as well?
