Philander and Steyn should have gone for it in the penultimate over and if one of them had got out, SA could have always played for the draw. They gave up too early! After Faf's runout, SA decided to play for the draw
But do remember that Morne Morkel and esp. Imran Tahir are mugs with the bat plus Dhoni had positioned everyone near the boundary (You can do that in tests only), so Philander and Steyn had to clear the boundary each time, not easy under pressure!

Many justifications given on why SA didnt opt for win ( see cricinfo ) . For me i cant digest it. All hard work of FAF and ABD gone in vein. vernon was on crease .
BTW imagine if it is done by our team , every one had their knife and screaming about match fixing and blahhhh

^^ the way india played , is heartening for their fans. No one was expecting more than 200 in an inning . Good for them specially pujara is a solid batsman
