There is no excuse for a DIL to disrespect her MIL and FIL, no matter what the situation is, and same goes for her husband, who should respect his wife's father and mother.
Having said that, FIL and MIL should also deal with their DIL in a mature way and forgive her minor mistakes, but if she starts crossing limits, than they should politely tell their son to discuss/inquire the matter politely with his wife (alone in another room).
If his wife still doesn't understand and keep misbehaving with MIL and FIL, without any genuine problem to solve through discussions, then she is herself inviting a harsh step from her husband. (to stop her from misbehaving)

HHL, I was talking about the grown-up son whose wife the FIL is tempted to slap. In other words a father shouldn't slap even his own son. There is too much slapping around in the world these days, and in most cases it has made things worse. There are better ways to deal with people. :-)
Angel, a father may have a right to slap his daughter, but I think it should and can be avoided.

I agree that slap isn't the answer for everything when it comes to setting ur children straight but then again, love isnt always the answer either. I agree that u shud avoid it as much as possible but sometimes u have to do.

This is silly. You guys want to solve things through "harsh steps" and "slaps" for "misbehavior"
she's not a friggin dog you can slap into submission.
How about talking about it? Maybe work on your relationship through communication...and stop treating her as someone who will be slapped, spanked, beaten, dealt harshly, hit, crapped on to submission.
She won't. She'll hate you more for it and your fil too.

Well well, yesterday i saw one family and the DIL was talking very harshly with MIL and FIL. I told Begum if i was at place of the FIL, i'll give her a slap on her face.
Begum told me don't be so macho, what if your DIL behave like that. And she had me thinking, what wud i do?
First its son's job to teach her wife some manners about how to respect his parents.
Second if DIL is so disrespectful then one should avoid talking to her,give her a silent treatment instead of slapping that she is not worth it to talk too. But still she is disrespectfull then not slapping but sometimes an elder person need to take action.

If DIL is rude then FIN should beat the F out of the son for being a bad son. A son should not let his wife or anyone else talk to MIL or FIL rudely.
