that was a good read, there is still some hope left that Pakistan will get back on its feet.
Ironically enough, most of musharraf's supporters are those rich Pakistanis who have gained a lot from Mushy's government, and have direct benefits associated with the survival of Mushy's government.
Musharraf's close associates and Cabinet members Ch. Shujaat Hussain, Humayun Akhtar Khan, Jahangir Tareen etc. own the largest sugar mills in Pakistan, and were directly involved in the sugar shortage and price hike crisis, which made them loads of money, and yet they almost enjoy complete immunity from the law. You can find hundreds of such examples through little effort.
His Army generals, definitely the Crème de la Crème of Pakistan, rose in power (and land ownership) during his reign. A relatively shareef Major general grabs around Rs. 15-20 crore worth of plots/land upon reitrement, and the figure jumps up to 30-35 crores for Lieutenant Generals. Under the 1912 Colonization of Land Act (which India made several alterations to), 10% of the land goes to Military. The same thing is undergoing in Islamabad, in every new sector/area developed by CDA.
P.S. I have a lot of respect for the jawans who fought and still fight for their country, and yet receive very little in return.
