Presidential candidate Justice (Retd) Wajihud-din -a well-known legal expert- was born in a respectable family of Delhi in December 1938. His father Justice Waheed-ud-Din was also attached with law and judiciary, and was president of Muslim League (Delhi Chapter). He had also been a member of the five-member bench in the united India, president of Sindh High Court Bar Association and Chief Justice of West Pakistan High Court.

Justice (Retd) Wajih-ud-Din spent his childhood in Karachi. He passed matriculation in 1955 from Sindh Madrasatul Islam, Intermediate in 1957 from Saint Patrick College and graduation in 1959 from FC College Lahore.

He got third position in LLB in SM Law College, Karachi and, like his father, adopted law as his profession. He did his initial practice under the supervision of his uncle SM Shafi and also worked under the aegis of renowned jurist, Noor-ul-Arifeen. He, as an honorary professor, taught LLB and LLM students at SM Law College in 1976 and was elected unopposed as vice-president of High Court Bar Association in 1976 and 1978. He was elected as the president of Karachi Bar Association with record votes- an indicator of his popularity among the lawyers.

He was appointed Standing Council for the federal government in 1984 and Advocate General, Sindh, on November 19, 1986 and appeared before the courts in many famous cases.

He was appointed as a Justice of Sindh High Court in 1988 where he, besides acting as a judge, performed many additional tasks as well. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court in 1997 and took many suo motu actions in the public interest. He was promoted to a judge of the Supreme Court. in May 1998. He refused to take oath under PCO and tendered his resignation in January 2001.
