I am aware that an Optometrist isn't a doctor....considering it's my profession and all.

Well, you can write prescriptions (a criterion for many) but yeah don't ever open your mouth in front of an ophthalmologist. :D

They can't prescribe everything, and even what they can prescribe is highly regulated. Besides, optometrists in the UK cannot prescribe at all so I really don't get the optometrist/doctor comparisons.
