If you are admitted, you will not be denied education at LUMS only because you cannot pay the fees. The ‘rich kids’ in a sense subsidize education for the less fortunate ones (in terms of financial position). The university is different from other private institutions in that it is not for making money for an individual or a group of individuals.
Would you guys please read the replies earlier in the thread.
Again, as I said, we need to spend money on Baluchistan and NWFP, but this money is not a waste either. This money is equivalent to sending 8-10 students abroad (which HEC is doing) but now 100s would get world class engineering education right here in Pakistan. This donation is also just a tiny fraction of what individuals and private organisations have already spent on the project. LUMS SSE | Giving to LUMS SSE
You can see that people like Syed Babar Ali (a major shareholder in tetra laval) and Razzaq Dawood (Descon) have contributed much more than the amount you people are arguing about. It is not that they have asked for money and then started the project. They have developed the school, showed results and then asked for donations.
PS You guys can look at LUMS SSE | Faculty and determine if it is not a sacrifice by scientists from world class universities to come teach and do research in Pakistan.
PS 2. SNGPL means Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and it does not make money out of extraction/exploration of oil which OGDC does.
