Re: Snake Charmers
Ok in my village there was r very distant relative, who was onc bitten by snake, now every year a snake comes n bites him, don’t one what’s the logic ppl in village says the hake comes in sawan month n bites him, if snake does not bite him, he becomes I’ll, I don’t know whether it’s a myth or reality, but my father had seen himself he was sitting wth him, snake came he placed his leg down from charpai, snake bite him n left , I have also seen tht person n his legs were all covered wth different pieces of clothes
This is also the theme of this play of Ashfaq Ahmed.
Re: Snake Charmers
Yes the profession was never beneficial compared to other like arts. It was mostly carried out from generation to generation in faqeeer/sadhoo people. I think rapid urbanisation also affected snake population.
Seeing the politician and their stunts, I now believe on the myth of Sheesh naag.
“Sapera” is another very backward caste in hindus, people emply them if snake appears in their house.
There were two other stories (kind of linked to each other) I heard. If/when you kill a snake, you have to chop the head or he will preserve the image of his killer in his eyes. His female will come and see that image and will hunt and kill the killer. Another twist of that story was that when you kill a male snake, you have to find his female partner and kill her too.
Bogus stories created by Pundas:D, so that people come to Shiva Temple and get their sin purified, you need to pay Dakshina, panditji always have solutions to your problems:)
Another bogus story by pundas, after praying, tapsya, of thousands of year god bestows snake with special big diamond called Naag Mani:)
yeah…i asked my dad about this when i was a kid…in order to pacify my fears about snakes climbing up the legs of my charpai and biting me, my eldest bro told me that Hazrat Sulaiman [a.s.], who had control over jins, had made a du’aa to Allah not to allow the snake to climb up the charpai and Allah accepted it…so, the snakes can NOT climb up the khaTiyaa…lol
of course, he made up the story to sound more authentic.
this is trait of UP wallas, god bestowed natural talent:D

Yes now I remember there was some Mehmood Sapra to whom Salma Agha (saanp jaisi aankhon wali) was once married
