Mate I tried twice in my earlier life and this year when I knew for sure I was gonna be a dad I quit for good. It was really really bad... didn't think I could do it to be fair.
First time I tried to quit I was in Pakistan and it was a pathetic solo effort becuase by the next big tour of duty I was smoking again with all the "Comrades" and the chimneys kept going with me demolishing a couple of packs a day no problem.
Then in the UK I tried it with a mate at one workplace where the rules were a bit strict but they still gave us payed fag-breaks and the work was hard so we kept running out for a bit of chit chat and a smoke...
You know what really hit me was when I went to Thaitans gymn (it's a martial arts complex that is probably the best in the UK) there I met the likes of Mr Chris Crudelli and Mr Dorman. They were great at helping me work out new routines but I realised how bad my endurance was...
Everyone knows how chain smokers have trouble running for long periods and at first a marathon was basically like a death sentance, but I kept at it.
Running seriously helps...(so does martial arts, that should channel your ghussa elsewhere) I also had to stop smoking when I realised that there were Ninios on the way and that was the last straw.
Hold out buddy I am sure you can do it... NHS has a good support scheme in the UK too check it out afterall they do hand out free gum and patches. :)
If a guy trys to quit smoking but it comes with a change in attitude. i.e He gets frustrated over little things, Yells, Behaves bad...READY TO BITE kinda attitude. It happens to such an extent that you start to believe that Smoking helps him keep his calm and when he doesnt smoke he loses it.
You guys do have a point however as murgi mentioned it shld go away in couple of days but it doesnt. What if this attitude costs him his job or another relationship (parents, sibblings, wife/fiance)
It's all psychological, in your head. You need to tell yourself that you are not a pack of smokes. You're yourself. If you are an irritable sort of person initially, before smoking, then you will remain an irritable person no matter how long it's been since you quit smoking. But if you continue to think about what sort of person you were while smoking, then obviously you will feel irritable because you think that smoking makes you a better person.
I was never a BIGG SMOKER (2 packs a day). My pack lasted a week. So now am totally done. I hope i dont start again but it feels like this weekend is it for me.
2 packs a day isn't a light smoker buddy. That's a lot.
If you are hanging around smokers, you need to stop it. You need to change your environment and get rid of any sort of temptation. It can be very easy to go back to smoking, it's not that hard. But can you imagine the disappointment that other people will feel towards you, and not to mention can you live with yourself knowing that you quit trying to quit?

^ Bro if you dont mind me asking did you start of smoking socially?
I did, I was in the wrong sort of crowd and back then not only was it considered cool but actually encouraged becuase it was supposed to help us keep calm and be stress free...
Smoking is seriously not cool...
Especially when your money is going down the drain along with your health.

Yes bro i did start socially, and abt the crowd i think i m worst among them.
Well i did kill the weekend without thinking about smoking. :)
That’s good! One day at a time. I’m assuming you’re in Pakistan (correct me if I’m wrong), and it’s very common to find smokers everywhere so the temptation must be very high. But continue on this path. Read up stuff on the internet about tips and tricks to not fall in the habit ie having something in the mouth or between the fingers. If you have nicotine craving, try to get the nicotine patches or gum to help you.
